Boruto filler list: the filler to skip and what anime canon means
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has 28 filler episodes out of 293, about 10%: 16–17, 40–41, 48–50, 67–69, 96–97, 112–119, 138–140, 152–154, 156, 256. Another 179 episodes, 61%, are anime canon, so skipping only the filler still leaves you mostly watching stories written for the anime.
Boruto episodes by type
Anime Filler List counts 74 manga canon, 12 mixed, 179 anime canon and 28 filler episodes Anime Filler List. Its manga canon also covers the novel adaptations, such as Sasuke Retsuden in episodes 282 to 286 AFL, Crunchyroll. The arc names come from the anime's official labels as Japanese Wikipedia lists them, checked against Crunchyroll's arc guide Japanese Wikipedia, Crunchyroll.
Some episodes are mixed: they adapt part of the manga or a novel and add scenes of their own. Episode 18 is an example: its first half comes from "The Day Naruto Became Hokage," a short manga handed out to moviegoers at the Boruto film, and AFL marks the rest as filler Japanese Wikipedia, AFL.
Filler or anime canon: what's the difference?
Both are written for the anime. Filler is a side story you can drop without losing anything. Anime canon is original material that AFL counts as part of the anime's own story, and Boruto has a lot of it.
- The opening arc: episodes 1 to 15 are an Academy story made for the anime. The manga starts by retelling Boruto: Naruto the Movie instead ANN, Wikipedia.
- Additions to manga arcs: the anime's Chunin Exams retelling adds a villain who plays a big part in the anime's later story, and the Mujina Bandits and Kara Actuation arcs expand on the manga's story Japanese Wikipedia.
- Whole original arcs: Mitsuki's Disappearance (71 to 92), Time Slip (127 to 136), which Masashi Kishimoto came up with for the Naruto manga's 20th anniversary, and Great Naval Battle in the Mist (233 to 260) are anime canon apart from episode 127 (mixed) and 256 (filler) AFL, Japanese Wikipedia.
Crunchyroll's arc guide draws the line differently. It marks Mitsuki's Disappearance, Time Slip and its version of the Mist arc as filler, though not the opening arc or Kara Actuation Crunchyroll. So decide first which story you want to follow.
What that means if you're skipping
Skip only the 28 filler episodes and you'll watch 265, about 106 hours at 24 minutes an episode Wikipedia. To follow just the manga and novel story, keep the 74 manga canon and 12 mixed episodes. That's 86 in all, about 34 hours, or less than a third of the show. They're episodes 1, 18–24, 39, 53–59, 61–66, 93–95, 106–111, 127, 148–151, 157, 181–189, 192–208, 210–220, 282–293.
The anime leans on its own stories even in side episodes. Episode 49, a filler episode, nods back to the anime-only opening arc, as ANN's review points out ANN.

How to use this list
Pick your path first. For the whole anime, watch every arc in order and skip only the numbers on the skip line. For the manga story alone, use the shorter list above instead. Either way, keep the mixed episodes, since each one adapts some of the manga or novels. Three arcs, Parent and Child Day, Steam Ninja Scrolls and Sasuke Retsuden, adapt Naruto novels Crunchyroll, Japanese Wikipedia.
